The HKU Alumni Association of New England (HKUAANE) successfully host its "12th Annual HKUAANE Fall 2016 Luncheon" at the Changsho Restaurant in Cambridge, MA on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Over 40 HKU alumni, friends, and exchange students participated in this year's sold out luncheon.

Dr Dalena Wright, Senior Fellow at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation, Harvard University, delivered a keynote lecture entitled "British Foreign Policy and the Return of Hong Kong to China." Roy Y. Chan, director of HKUAANE and founder/CEO of Philanthropy for America, chaired the event.

At the conclusion of the event, Mr Chan announced to the participants that he will be stepping down as director of HKUAANE to pursue a full-time upper-level administrative role in the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (DEMA) at Indiana University Bloomington. During the past two years, Mr Chan oversaw the growth of HKUAANE, including the annual fall and spring luncheon events, annual tea gatherings, mentorship programme with HKU exchange students, the financial budget, and a newly designed HKUAANE website. In addition, Mr Chan hosted the first tea gathering with HKU Vice Chancellor and President Peter Mathieson in May 2015, the first of its kind in the New England region. Due to his unwavering commitment and support, the membership of HKUANNE grew by 45 percent under his directorship, with more than 100+ active members in the New England region.

Dr Tatfong Ng, assistant professor in the School of Medicine at Boston University, will serve as the next director of HKUAANE, effective January 1, 2017. Dr Kira Fu, a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, will serve as the assistant director of HKUAANE.

We thank Mr Chan for steering HKUAANE towards a bright future for many years to come.
