Social Sciences Pioneer Class of 1967-70
50th Anniversary Reunion

Dec 1, 2017

The year 1967 was not only a “remarkable year” in the history of Hong Kong, it was also the “founding year” of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. The new Faculty admitted a modest 115 students that first year. In 2017, the Faculty’s first batch of graduates, “The Social Sciences Pioneer Class of 1967-70”, held a series of activities to celebrate their 50 years of friendship: a reunion dinner on December 1 at Club Lusitano, Central; a tour around the Centennial Campus and a tea gathering with President Mathieson at the University Lodge on December 2; and an outing to Yim Tin Tsai, Sai Kung on December 3.

To commemorate their graduation, the Class also made a gift of HK$100,000 for the University’s First-in-the-Family Education Fund (FIFE) Scheme, a university-wide initiative that supports first-generation students from less privileged backgrounds to participate in learning activities outside the classroom and advocates equal learning opportunities.
